As we close out the summer at the Keuka Lakehouse, fond memories include the wonderful summer foods that are so enjoyable in the Finger Lakes.  The Lakehouse is designed for cooking and eating.  It has a compact kitchen with all the appliances, including a new refrigerator this year.  There is the screened porch with a pass-through to the kitchen for more formal dining at sunset, and the open porch now outfitted with an umbrella for breakfast, lunch, and snacks.  We have a large indoor dining room that seats 8-10 for inclement weather,  but is seldom used due to our proclivity for outside.  Just off the porch is the grilling space, so the cook can join the conversation on the porch.  Adding to the fun are the cooking contributions from our sons and their wives, and the trying of new foods by the grandchildren, aged three to eight years.  We have many traditional favorites:  TAProots blueberry pancakes with our own maple syrup for breakfast,  super chef salads or bacon-lettuce-tomato sandwiches with local tomatoes for lunch, several grilled dinner specialities (Teriyaki Salmon with vegetable melange, glorious local sweet corn, shrimp on the Barbie, marinated flank steak, zucchini wedges), and peach pies or blackberry cobbler for dessert. The kitchen also is an efficient site for cooked jam-making.  The dinners are matched with local and international wines from the TAProots cellar.  Great summer memories!
