This week is most odd because we are sequestered at home due to the Corona virus, but still busily working rather than out enjoying the garden.  The pruning and fertilizing is coming to an end, but not a lot is happening due to a prolonged drought with 9 inches of rain below average for the year and with record temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s for much of March.  This does not motivate me to plant even a few things yet.  The bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds have arrived and are happy the aloes and dickias are in full bloom.  The honeysuckle is also glowering with its sweet smell.  The sestrum has also restarted, now a 8 foot diameter by 8 foot tall bush.  These will keep us going until next week and a good rain, which should activate our perennials to add their nectar to the pollinators’ daily fare.
