A special part of our Keuka lakehouse is NONNY’S GARDEN.  It rests above a river stone wall in a sunny spot across the front of the house.  Not only do you view it at eye level from the parking pad, but also from above from the porch.  Like all gardens,  we try to have something blooming for as long as possible.  The coral bells, ferns, and an andromeda bush form the backdrop.  The early spring has tulips and daffodils.  Later, Siberian iris, Asiatic lilies, and columbines show up.  Dayliles in many varieties featured in another blog then appear.  Now, in the middle of the summer, we have phlox, Shasta daisies, coneflowers, and hardy geraniums.  Soon, the Black-eyed Susans and coneflowers will finish out with a possible butterfly bush bloom as well.  Nonny tends her flower bed most attentively, and weeds are quickly evicted.  Butterflies, spiders, and other bug life add interest.  Nonny’s garden is our most fitting way to say:  “Welcome to the Lake!”
