Our return to springtime also applies to NONNY’S GARDEN at the Lakehouse. No one attended it until we returned, so a bit of work was required to weed and mulch the raised flowerbed in from of our cottage. This year we pulled out the Siberian iris and moved them to TAProots farm, along with an overflow of Black-eyed Susans. We planted a few new flowers: a lovely light blue delphinium, a cluster of bright yellow miniature yarrow, and three Jupiter’s beard, to fill in the far end of the bed. Now, we have a sea of rudbeckia ( Black-eyed Susan’s) with a fringe of small columbines, Roseanne cranesbill, heuchera, and lady’s mantle. The echinacea or coneflowers with their pink blossoms have been supplemented by three deep red ones. The bright orange butterfly weed takes up a prominent spot at the front edge of the bed. The dainty delphinium and hot pink Jupiter’s beard take up the rear next to the stone wall. Our goal of an ever-changing parade of color appears to have been reached, with more buds on the way from day lilies, coneflowers, and rudbeckia. It is a wonderful greeting each morning to pop out on the deck to see what new flowers are blooming.
