Christmas at the Florida Home is the time for TAPROOTS TRADITIONS. The hand-painted Christmas cookies and bags of tangerines, grapefruit, limes and lemons are holiday gifts for friends and neighbors. At least one Key Lime pie is prepared in the week leading up to the holidays. Lemon slices and kumquat circles start showing up in our fish dishes. The Sangria is fortified with orange and apple slices. Breakfasts now include fresh-squeezed orange juice and today-picked pink and red grapefruit. Lunches now have tangerines and temple oranges for dessert. Christmas breakfast featured plum jam on croissants and Christmas dinner featured a cranberry-apple pie using TAProots Farm apples brought down to Florida in September and carefully stored in the back-up refrigerator. The many remaining apples will provide applesauce for the rest of the winter. This bounty of winter treats remind us of the joy of growing and harvesting the fruits of TAProots across the prior year.
